Saving babies from Premature Birth

A year ago today we were pregnant – planning for a future with twin girls. Never did the thought cross our minds that we might have to leave the maternity word empty handed after their birth. Nor that over a year later our children would be nothing more then a mere statistic to our state, and that we’d be spending our time fighting for things such as prematurity campaigns.

Did you know that premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death in the first month of life? It affects half a million babies a year in the United States. Those who survive may have lifelong health problems. And premature births are on the rise -- up to 30% since 1981.

This is why we are asking you to support us in the March of Dimes WalkAmerica. Because preterm labor can happen to ANY pregnant woman. In nearly half the cases, the causes are unknown. The March of Dimes is leading the way to find answers by supporting research into the causes of premature birth. We are joining the fight, and so can you.

Your support helps fund:

-Research into stress and other factors that may trigger preterm labor.

-PROGRAMS TO EDUCATE PREGNANT WOMEN TO RECOGINZE THE WARNING SIGNS OF PRETERM LABOR.

-Tools to help health care providers find better ways to detect women who may be at risk for preterm labor.

In April we will take part in the 5.5 mile WalkAmerica in Newport Beach, CA. We will walk for Gracie - who was our fighter; and for Olivia – who pierced our hearts with her beautiful smile; and for the thousands of other babies who were born far too early and are endlessly struggling to get through each day. Please join in and help fight prematurity. We need your help – and so do America’s babies.

Thank You!
