That time we drove 5203 miles. With the kids.

A couple of month’s back we found out my brothers Army graduation would be taking place in South Carolina in March. And we thought to ourselves: LET’S DRIVE!!  Jason and I had talked about driving across the country many times & here we had the perfect excuse.

We had a few logistical issues in that the dates fell around Easter and my preacher man husband couldn't exactly miss Easter week at church. So we spent 2 weeks “vacationing” and then he flew home, leaving me to make the drive back.  With 2 kids. And a small rental car. And before you think we’re completely out of our minds, I should share that my parents were also going, and they agreed to do it as a drive too. So I was able to have them near us state to state on the way home mostly. We stayed at the same hotels and often made lunch calls asking “what mile marker are you at? Want to stop for lunch”.

Yesterday someone asked me how far of a drive it was to SC. ALL the way across the country. From the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic. That’s 5,203 miles round trip. About 80 hours of driving time.

We left on a Tuesday. About an hour into my fully potty trained daughter fell asleep and peed. I stopped at Target and bought Pulls Ups. We landed in Laughlin on Day 1. My Dad lives there and we wanted to visit a little.

Josiah and Grandpa

Us and grandpa
We spent a good part of day 2 with grandpa and then headed to Gallop, New Mexico.

Big blue sky from a New Mexico rest stop.

Playing with airplanes at the rest stop. We packed lots of goodies. {That post will come soon}

We tried instagraming {totally a word!!} to keep track of our travels.

Rest stops outside of Cali are great! As we drove through Arizona we stopped at a Crackel Barrel {don't have those here} in Flagstaff which was patched with much snow! I never remembered that part of Arizona being so beautiful!

Day 3 + coming soon!

  1. I didn't realize that my little detour to VA was that many more miles. Our total miles turned out to be 5942. But soooo well worth it.
